I was asked to repair an existing Garden Lighting system which had stopped working. The problem was twofold – the casing of the transformers that powered the lights had split, allowing water to enter which had caused them to stop working, and the connectors used on the cable were not properly watertight.
One of the old transformers, with split casing, and the inside of one of the old cable connectors, clearly showing the rust!
The solution was to replace the transformers – and place them into a suitable weatherproof enclosure – and replace the connectors with suitably weatherproof examples
This is an example of the original installation – the white box contains the mains supply, which connects to the transformer (the black box on the left)
This is the new installation, with the new transformer placed within a weatherproof enclosure
This is an example of the new cable connectors
[coming soon – a picture of the entire system working!]
