Consumer Unit

Replacement of a fusebox or Consumer Unit is a bigger job than you might expect – not only do I have to physically replace the fusebox but I also then have to inspect and test every electrical circuit associated with that fusebox, which in itself can take a day or more

This example is quite a common situation – an older house with several small fuseboxes, each of which was added when new circuits were added to the property.

And here is the ‘after’ picture, showing the single, modern fusebox. Since January 2016 newly installed fuseboxes are required to be made of metal, or at least installed within a metal enclosure, to help prevent any risk of fire.
